Dear (company name),
Five years ago, I lost my wife to breast cancer. To honor her memory and to prevent our daughter from having to fight the same battle, I have registered to walk in the Breast Cancer 3-Day, which will take place this (month) in (City name).
Part of my commitment to the 3-Day is training to be able to walk 60 miles over the course of 3 days. The other part of my commitment is to raise $2,200, money that will go back to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund to help with breast cancer research, education and treatments.
Would (company name) be willing to help sponsor my participation in the 3-Day? In exchange for your monetary contribution, I have been given permission by my own employer to include an article about your generosity in our upcoming newsletter, which is viewed by several hundred employees. I am also creating a ‘sponsor flag’, where the names and logos of my sponsors will be displayed throughout the entire 3-Day, which will be seen by thousands of participants and spectators.
I thank you in advance for your support and look forward to speaking with you further about my involvement in the Breast Cancer 3-Day and how (company name) can help put an end to breast cancer.
Sincerely,
John Doe

Dear Maria,
Remember last year, when I told you about my daughter in-law walking in the Breast Cancer 3-Day? I couldn’t participate with her last year, because of the move, but this year I couldn’t let the opportunity pass me by.
As I prepare for this challenge, walking mile after mile, I think of those who have traveled the path before me, those who are traveling the path with me and those who are yet to follow. There are times when I don’t feel like training or my feet hurt or I’m just tired. Then I think of all the people that I care about who have been touched by breast cancer. I walk for them. I walk for our friends, wives, grandmothers, mothers, aunts, cousins and sisters. And I walk for our beautiful daughters.
I know you understand why this is so important to me and understand why I’m asking for your financial support. Since the event does not actually take place until September, I feel like there is plenty of time for me to meet my minimum goal of $2,200. However, I want to reach this goal early and hope to surpass it. My personal goal is $5,000. The walking is easy for me. Asking for dollars is not. But if we are ever going to find answers to incredibly difficult problems like breast cancer, I know I have to ask.
Attached are instructions for online donations as well as a donation form to mail in your donation. Thank you for your support and concern over the last incredibly difficult year and thank you for your support for my continuing journey.
Sincerely,
Vanessa
P.S. Ask your company if they provide matching gifts for your donation.
